We Are Committed to Recycling

Plastic production has been increasing in record numbers due to consumer demand. In the U.S. alone, plastic production grew 4 fold to 113 billion pounds in 2006 from 29 billion in 1973. The majority of the plastics produced are not recycled and end up in landfills or make their way into the worlds’ oceans.

Eighty (80%) percent of ocean trash is carried by wind, rivers, and storm drains into our oceans. Trash is captured in the ocean vortex  and gradually move the floating debris to the center, trapping them in large masses. One of the bigger accumulations of garbage is known as the Great Pacific Garbage Patch and it floats in the middle of the Pacific Ocean in the North Pacific Gyre. It is estimated to be the size of Texas. Because the floating landfill is in international waters, no country wants to take the responsibility of the clean up. Since plastic does not decompose, it breaks down until it is ingested by

marine life. That not only poses a threat to the sea animals but to humans who consume the tainted seafood.

USFibers is committed to fighting pollution by tackling the problem from the source by recycling plastic before it ends up in the landfills. We also help to lower carbon footprints by helping companies reclaim their plastic rather then expend more energy & resources to reproduce the products from new material.
